What is "Valepp"?
Valepp is a mountain valley, stream and settlement.
It lies south of Lake Spitzingsee in the Schliersee mountain range in the Mangfall mountain range in the Bavarian Prealps. The valley belongs to the market town of Schliersee in the district of Miesbach. It also lies partly in the municipality of Rottach-Egern. It borders Stolzenberg and Rotwand in the north and Schinder and Hinteres Sonnwendjoch in the south.
Our trip itinerary
On Easter Sunday we decided to ride Valepp on our racing bikes.
From the Margarita guesthouse, the road to Lake Tegernsee led mostly along small, quiet roads.
On the quietest trails up and down to Lake Tegernsee
Once there, we continued to Rottach-Egern and turned left in the village towards the Enterrottach toll road. From there, the trail winds along the Rottach River to the slopes of the Suttenbahn cable car. The Moni Alm mountain hut offers a place to stop for refreshments after the initial climb.
Those with more stamina can continue through the picturesque Valepp Valley. The road is surrounded by mountains and leads to Lake Spitzingsee, so there is very little traffic. But watch out for the occasional bus. If you are going to the Jägerhäusel in Valepp, you can enjoy a meal in Manuel Neuer's restaurant. We like to stop at the small restaurant opposite the church at Lake Spitzingsee. For us, it is a real classic!
After a short break and refreshments, we head down the steep descent from the Spitzingsattel pass and turn right at the bottom towards Fischbach Au. There, our route leads left past the monastery pub (Kloster Stüberl). We continue parallel to the main road (on both sides) to the next descent to Bad Feilnbach.
In Wiechs we stop again at "Aunt Leni's Ice Cream Parlor" so we can make iced coffee at home. Route details: approx. 95 km with an elevation gain of 1600 m.
